Final Riddle

Who do we ask when we don't know?
Who makes us laugh when we're feeling low?
Who can tell from far away what ails our computers, night or day!
Who maintains a diet that's healthy for all,
And grows it in his garden, beginning each fall.
When the motor breaks he can still make a boat run,
Today's his birthday----so wish him some fun!

Finally Connecting. :)

Hello everyone, this is from the last of the Buchanan Family (or last in the house I should say) and all is going swell. First of all I have to say Happy 20th Birthday To The Swell Guy with the Gray Suit. I'm not a great rhymer as Grand-mamma is as all we can see, but I put all my heart into it. Lastly Reid if you are going to read Grand-mamma's nifty nine poem check my comment; I'm sure you'll enjoy. Now for a good old Blondie story of Laura Buchanan :). So first of all Dad is coming back from Japan at this time and caught a cold on the trip, so the rest of us were exposed including L-girl who catches it. She could not taste her food. While the family was at the table Laura interrupts one of my intriguing stories about what I might do for a business. This is what she said - Literally! "Wait wait wait, guess what guy's - I can only taste my food when I blow my nose." Then at the table she gave us a live demonstration: ...(blows nose)... "Soup, I taste soup heheheh It's awesome". Later on she ate some starfruit and a minute later out of nowhere...blow... "Starfruit! I taste starfruit." She reminded me of Gilligan. Then I took the chance of making a really good joke. As some of you know if I make a funny joke I will talk about it all week and bring it up as much as possible. I finally got my courage and held my nose and yelled out while everyone watched, "Pineapple!" Afterwards I kept holding my nose and just yelled random foods out loud. It would've been funnier if you were there. From BIG-Dman #9 of the nifty nine.

Hello all, these are some drawings that I submitted as answers to Econ problems to my professor for my online course over the summer. She accepted it happily! It's so cool when people are logical!

Riddle for the Nifty Nine

Who is filled with inspiration, urged on by his imagination
Books to write, poems to engender,
This dreamer loves a dog named Cinder.
Not many know how well he sings,
But all know of the laughter he brings.
He's big and tall---he's loved by all.
If you know who he is, today wish him well,
For he's 20 years old and a guy who's just swell!

Well, keeping in line with story telling, I'll tell the story of geting struck by lightning at the Grand Canyon.

For those of you who may not know, I took a couple weeks at the end of August to visit some of the west's beautiful natural monuments. I hitchhiked down to Santa Fe from Denver, where I met up with some Australian friends that I met while bartending there a couple years ago. From there we departed for Utah, Arizona, and Colorado.

Anyways, when we got to the Grand Canyon it was getting to be evening. I ran ahead of everyone because I wanted to catch some views while there was still a bit of light. It was a bit stormy, but not raining at all. The path I was following led out along a long ledge that projected out into the canyon. This made for beautiful views in all directions. At the end of the path was a large boulder with a flat top. I had seen lightning in the distance, but I thought "I'll just climb up on this boulder very briefly to get the 360 degree view. What are the chances that lightning would strike during the ten seconds I'm up there?"

Well, I climbed up and had a glorious moment looking out over the canyon and then "WHAM BAM SIZZLE FIZZLE ZIP ZAP ZANG". I saw a very bright purple flash in the sky around me, heard an electric hiss, and felt a very strong electric zap hit my head. I was totally fine afterwards, though my heart was racing at a thousand miles per hour (due to adrenalin) and I was quite shocked (literally).

I think the bolt I got struck by must not have been a main bolt because if it had been I would probably dead. It may have been a small tendral reaching out from a bigger bolt, or perhaps a small piece of some cloud to cloud lightning that decided to pay a visit to earth.

Needless to say, I scrambled down from the boulder and ran back away from the canyon's edge as quickly as possible.

A True Story

This is a true story, it happened to me (Ben) when I was waiting to purchase some beer...

A "long-islander", as we like to call them, was standing next to me outside where I was waiting for my friend to buy some beer. He was with a girl,(presumably his girlfriend), there may have been more in the crew, more definitely stopped to hear what I had to say. This gentleman was clearly inebriated, and felt it would be in his best interest to come up with something clever to say, he chose to comment on my outfit. I was not dressed in any ridiculous way, just genes with a tucked in shirt. Not anything flashy like the silk black and silver shirt he was wearing though. Anyway, he commented on my shirt, a positive but sarcastic remark, and when that did not elicit a response pleasing to him he made a comment about my belt. At this point a couple of people had turned around and sort of idly stared in my direction. When I still didn't respond, just smiled, he asked me..."so uh...what were you trying to accomplish" in his own prose, I figured I might as well respond. Here is what I said: And yes, I did say these exact words, I figured it would fit the mood.

"My dear friend, let me tell you a story. There once were two parents who had a child, they lived in Long-Island. They didn't care for their child as much as most parents. One day, when the child was still a toddler his mother dropped him and he landed on his head. The child became brain-damaged and was slightly retarded, although still able to walk, eat, and function at a sub-par level. While his mother cared not for her child, she did like to take him to the park so she could talk to her other bad-mom friends. One day her retarded child wandered off and found a gentleman, dressed differently than he was used to, but looked just fine, smart and intelligent, sitting on a bench. The retarded child walked up to the person and through some sand on his shoes, the gentleman on the bench smiled and said hello. When the child got no response he went up to the man and attempted to bite his leg."

At this point I asked the guy...What would you do if you were the man on the bench? He sort of scoffed and looked around, visibly uneasy and said "can you believe this guy? what the f*** is he talking about?" So I said...

"Let me tell you what I would do, I would pick the kid up, sit him right down on the bench next to me, and tell him a story".

At this point the kid claimed to see someone he knew across the street, called me a name and walked off...his girlfriend turned her head back as they were walking off and very sweetly smiled at me.

Well done self.

Interesting Article

Well I have just run across an interesting article for which I have posted a link here. I will be very interested to follow this story and see where it ends up. Who knows, maybe it will be the end of the world. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,418582,00.html

I have made a definitive decision regarding my comportion this semester. First, I am going to invent words, like the one featured in the previous sentence. Shakespear did it so I can too. They will of course be intelligently based...anyway...I have decided that instead of doing what it takes to get an A in all of my classes, as I usually do, I am going to do what it takes to not get angry with my teachers. This means not doing any of the busy work, and when they ask for a 1 page summary on some irrelevant article because they are trying to get a feel for my riting skillz (on purpose), then I am going to give them a 1 page paper......12.5 font....Aerial....1.25" margins top bottom left and right, double spaced, with a line for the title, my name, date, and their name respectively. Who knows, maybe I will still get A's, but even if I only get B's, they will be B's well earned.
